The Registration process here requires 4 things and takes 3 steps.
Required info:
1. A working email address. You will not get your confirmation email if your account doesn't work. And later, if the site sends you mail and it bounces; that hurts our reputation with our mailing system... and I will have to close your account. So please keep a working email address associated with your account. It doesn't have to be the one you use personally daily, it just has to WORK and you need to receive/open the mail we do send.
2. A LOGIN name. This can be anything (including your email address). The LOGIN name will never be seen on site by anyone except admin staff.
3. A VISIBLE name. This is what will be seen on your forums posts, PMs, and any content that you create using the CMS. Please be sure this name only reveals your identity if you want it to.
4. A 12 character password. Ideally, this password includes upper and lower case, numbers, and punctuation. But the only requirement is that it be 12 characters. Computers are now fast enough to brute force 8 character passwords in just a couple months, so if you are using 8 character passwords anywhere, you may wish to change to longer ones (or rotate them monthly, at worst).
That's it. There is more you can CHOOSE to share with us, especially in the profile settings... but none of that is required to use the site.
The process of getting registered involves:
1. You fill out the registration form to provide the above info.
2. The site will then send you an email to verify the email address that you provided. You MUST receive this email and respond as it tells you or I will never receive a notice that you are seeking to register with the site. It should come nearly immediately upon registration. If you do NOT get this email, look again. Check your spam folder. The email will come from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ... make sure you can receive it. If you still can't find the email, post in the Bug Reports.
3, Once you respond to this email, the system will send ME an email letting me know that you are registering. Until I get this email knowing your email address is working; I will NOT approve your account and you will not be able to log in. Keep in mind that the number of people involved here are limited and we are not paid staff... registration approvals will happen when I have time to verify that you are not a spammer/hacker (your email and IP addresses will be checked against reporting DB's). This will rarely take more than 24 hrs. But it is quite likely that it will not happen within 0-4 hrs of your registration. So don't immediately try to log in.
